Product photography from our York studio

Hero image photography.

One product.
A strong first view.

A hero image is the main photograph that introduces a product or campaign. Its job depends on where it appears: a website banner needs a different plan from the first image in an Amazon listing.

Start with where it will appear

What does the first photograph need to do?

The examples show different uses. A campaign image with text or a dramatic background is not an example of an Amazon main image.

01

Introduce a campaign

Lighting, colour and a setting can establish the look of a launch. We agree the product focus and the message the photograph should support.

02

Show the product clearly

For a shop or marketplace main image, clarity comes first. We plan the view and background around its destination. Amazon requirements are checked separately.

Build an advertising image

A more constructed image can use a dramatic setting or digital effects. It belongs in a campaign or supporting content where that treatment is suitable.

From a product to a photograph

Give the image a clear direction.

Choose one main message
Is the photograph introducing a fragrance, showing a texture or presenting a new range? That decision guides the angle, light and styling.
Make the product recognisable
The bottle, packaging and distinctive details still need to read clearly. A busy scene can hide the very thing you want people to notice.
Agree how it will be made
We discuss references and the proposed setup. Studio photography, location work and digital assembly involve different preparation and costs.

A banner is not a square photograph

Leave room for the whole layout.

Website banners

Share the banner dimensions and where the heading or button will sit. The product and important details need space around those elements.

Phone screens

A wide image may be cut down heavily on a phone. We plan a separate arrangement or version where a simple crop would lose the product or message.

Advertisements and launch assets

List the square, tall and wide formats you need before shooting. A new layout can require another photograph or additional editing.

Agree the production before the shoot

One image can involve several pieces of work.

The concept and setup

Time goes into the idea, preparation, props, light and arrangement. Tell us if the hero needs to work across a wider campaign.

Models, locations and materials

We confirm any people, specialist props or location needs and their costs. Image use and any third-party permissions are agreed as part of the brief.

Versions and changes

We list the finished images and formats in the estimate. Agree the direction before shooting; a different concept later can mean a new setup.

Before you book

Hero image photography questions.

What is a hero image?

It is the lead photograph for a product, page or campaign. It may be a clear product view or a styled image. The right approach depends on where it will appear and what it needs to communicate.

Is an Amazon main image the same as a campaign hero?

They have different requirements. We plan Amazon main images around the relevant listing requirements. Styled scenes, words and effects may belong in supporting or campaign content instead. Our Amazon service covers the full listing plan.

Can one image work on desktop and mobile?

Sometimes, but a wide banner can lose important details when cropped for a phone. Share both layouts before the shoot. We can plan separate versions or arrangements where needed.

Can you help develop the idea?

Yes. Start with the product, audience and intended use. Reference images and your brand guidance help us agree the direction, setup and scope before shooting.

Can you shoot hero images and packshots together?

Yes. We can plan both in one booking. We agree each photograph and setup in the estimate because a campaign image and a clear product view can involve different work.

Are all usage rights included?

We agree intended use before booking. If models, locations or third-party assets are involved, their permissions and any limits must fit your planned use. Tell us the channels and campaign duration when briefing us.

How is the price worked out?

We quote for the images and work agreed for your project. Your itemised estimate sets out the photography, editing and any additional production requirements, with VAT shown separately. There is no minimum order.

Can you work to my deadline?

Tell us the date when you enquire, along with when the products or source images will be available. We confirm the delivery date before booking and will tell you if the brief needs adjusting to fit the time available.
